Hamilton is located on the traditional territories tended to by the Erie, Neutral, Huron-Wendat, Haudenosaunee and Mississaugas Peoples. On this land, we are covered by the Dish With One Spoon Wampum Belt Covenant, an agreement to share and care for the resources gifted to us and the land itself. We are also covered by the Between the Lakes Purchase, 1792, which was an agreement made between the Crown and the Mississaugas Peoples.
